How important is your pillow for sleep 2019

Today we're going to talk about how important is your pillow for sleep 2019.

The very simple answer is, YES, your pillow is important! Often, when we talk about sleep, we look at mattresses, which are really, really important. You know that I'm a big fan of my friends at Fresh Bed! But we cannot neglect the pillow.

The pillow is just as important. Very often when I am asked, "what do you recommend?" I cannot give one recommendation, because it depends on, how you sleep. Do you sleep on your side, on your back, on your tummy? It also depends on what kind of mattress you have.

The first question that I would ask you, is "how long you've had your pillow and if it's still in shape?"We all keep our pillows for way too long and I'm super guilty of that.

I recently threw out some old pillows from my parents. In essence, you should keep them around for 18 months, except for memory foam pillows, which might last up to three years. Then it's time to change them as well.

I really recommend testing them out and seeing what you like best.

Personally, I love a memory foam pillow. The first time I picked them up, I was surprised by how heavy and thin they are. Because I sleep on my side, it's what really helps me align my spine perfectly, and that's what we're looking for.

We're looking for this beautiful balance between your mattress and your pillow. Get you the support to have a straight line between your head, your neck part, and your spine. You have lots of connections happening through that spine. Lots of nerves communicating with each other and when you're all twisted and all wobbly, it can be more difficult and can impact your sleep. It can also give you back pain and in turn impact your sleep.

So, take a look at what kind of pillow you prefer.

  • If you sleep on your tummy, something fluffier might be better.

  • If you sleep on your back, something a little higher might be a good idea.

Test them out. After 18 months, change and maybe opt for another pillow type. Considering how many hours you sleep each night, it's totally worth it!

Make sure to change your pillows regularly and don't forget that they are just as important as your mattress!
